To Blog or Not?

A question on one of the forums is whether our blogs should contain personal matter or be strictly business. I know I don't follow a blog myself if it is solely commercial, I get enough of commercials eveywhere else. I quickly unfollow anyone on Twitter if all they post are endless promos. More than 5 ads, and they are history. While I do post new products and do product reviews here as the case arises, I feel like me, you want to know a little bit about me, what is going on in my life, what interests me, and what challenges do I face sometimes. I find it fun and interesting and yes, sometimes sad, to read about other bloggers' lives and goings on, I WANT to hear about it, it is what makes that person's blog stand out and makes me want to come back for more. I try to keep it balanced here, a little personal, a little business, to make it live and breathe. What do you think?

Jackie, I also have my own criteria for which blogs I choose to read, and boy are they varied. I think your approach has very sound reasoning behind it.
I like a blog with a good mix because I like to be entertained, educated, and learn about the blogger. My preferences in blogs is a bit like my preferences in TV. I prefer Hulu to commercial TV and get more out of 15 to 30 seconds of commercials than 3 minutes with 5 or more products being presented. Please keep on blogging.

I say, different blogs for different people. Some people like to read blogs solely about your business. Some don't. There are multiple blogs out there for everyone. You can't please everyone. It's impossible. But I like your approach to it. A little of everything. Some people won't follow because that's not their style, and other's will love it. So I say do what feels right. lol. For whatever reason the saying "If you build it they will come" came to mind.

I completely agree! A little bit of everything. Since I'm very eclectic that suits me just fine. Plus I have the advantage of having a full time job that alwasy fascinates people. In any social situation I always get tons of questions from people once they know what I do; so I figured why now add that info on a blog (as long as I minus all the personal info due to privacy laws)

HI Heather! Thank you for your input! I'll keep on doing what I am doing here then.

I totally agree. I like a good mix of both. I can read all the ads I want in a magazine.

I agree, which I guess anyone who read my blog would know...I like shopping and all... but I am more likely to care what someone is selling if I know about them... especially in a handcrafted marketplace. Good post.
